
RIN IP Partners were happy to have Mr. Kohji Suzuki and Ms. Jamie-Lynn Kraft from the Canadian firm Smart & Biggar LLP visit our office. They provided us with a comprehensive and detailed overview of the sweeping changes to Canada’s Trademark Law and CIPO policies that took effect in June of 2019. Of major note was Canada’s joining the Madrid Protocol, as well as the elimination of “use” requirements at the application stage.
Ms. Jan Liu, Mr. Jiang Liwei, Ms. Rui Wang, and Ms. Kaho Santo from LexField Law Offices (China) visited our firm. Among other things, they informed us of some trends and topic points concerning recent litigation and cases in China.
Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, P.C. visited our office. Today we had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Karen Lim and Mr. Jason Jones from the offices of Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, P.C. Among other things, they updated us on various new rules being put in place by the USPTO, including new requirements for applicant information to be provided at the time of filing, new rules for submitting evidence of use, etc.
Today we had the pleasure of hosting Mr. George Jomaa and Mr. Salah Samhouri from SABA & Co. Mr. Jomaa is from the Head Office in Lebanon and Mr. Samhouri is from their office in Yemen. They provided us with some detailed insight into current trademark matters in Arabic-speaking countries,and also gave us considerable advice on how to handle counterfeit products in those areas.
Mr. Ning Yue from FAIRSKY LAW OFFICE (China) visited our office today. Mr. Yue will be at the helm of FAIRSKY’s newly established Tokyo office. Given his wealth of experience and knowledge in dealing with Japanese companies, we expect good things to come.
